Are you a driven software engineer interested in helping give millions of Americans the freedom to spend time on what truly matters? As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll report to an Engineering Manager and drive technical initiatives from inception to user delivery. You'll lead by example, balancing hands-on development with technical leadership, ensuring continuous improvement, and optimizing ROI in product decisions. In this role, you'll architect solutions, write high-quality code, and mentor engineers. You'll work across JavaScript, PHP, Terraform, and other technologies, contributing to the entire codebase as needed. Your leadership will directly impact software quality, delivery speed, and user experience. Responsibilities: Lead development efforts, utilizing best practices, frameworks, and architectural patterns. Solve complex system and integration challenges. Share knowledge through documentation and technical presentations. Delegate effectively while ensuring team success. Identify and prioritize technical debt with engineering and product teams. Implement automated testing strategies across the test pyramid. What Were Looking For: Experienced full-stack engineer with expertise in server- and client-side web development. Strong understanding of cloud development, TDD, RESTful APIs, React, XSS attacks, and MVC frameworks. Solid grasp of computer science fundamentalsyou should be able to explain pointers, Big O notation, composition vs. inheritance, and the differences between arrays, linked lists, and sets. Strong SQL and database knowledge, including relational and non-relational databases. You should understand CRUD operations, indexing, and the differences between left joins and inner joins.
